The Oman-mediated round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States in Geneva has concluded. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran had “reached an understanding with the U.S. On fundamental principles,” while noting that no date has been set for a third round of negotiations.

Araghchi first met Oman’s foreign minister, Badr al-Busaidi, who has been shuttling between the Iranian and American delegations. Members of the U.S. Team include Middle East envoy Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to Iranian state television, cited by the Lebanese outlet Al Mayadeen, the Geneva agenda is limited to the nuclear file and the lifting of sanctions.

“If Iran does not make the deal there will be consequences. I will be involved in those talks, indirectly,” the U.S. President told reporters aboard Air Force One about the discussions beginning in Geneva on February 17. “They want to reach an agreement… I don’t think they want the consequences of a failed agreement,” Trump added.

On February 17, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani briefed Parliament on Italy’s participation as an observer in Trump’s Board of Peace. “There is no credible peace plan alternative to Trump’s,” he said.
