BEIRUT – A senior Iraqi official’s visit to Beirut this week signals continued diplomatic engagement wiht Lebanon amid ongoing regional instability.Hussam Iraqji held meetings with prominent religious leaders, including Sheikh Ahmed al-Khateeb and Sheikh Ali al-Bassat, and paid respects at the shrine of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, underscoring Iraq’s interest in fostering dialog across the Lebanese political spectrum Akhbar al Yawm. During a press conference, Iraqji affirmed his country’s commitment to regional stability, stating “We do not seek war, but we are ready,” while also reiterating support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and national unity Al-Sharq Online.
BEIRUT – A senior official recently held meetings in Beirut with religious leaders and visited the tomb of a prominent figure, signaling continued engagement in regional diplomatic efforts. Hussam Iraqji met with Sheikh Ahmed al-Khateeb and Sheikh Ali al-Bassat, according to reports.
Iraqji’s visit also included a stop at the shrine of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, a key figure in Lebanese politics. The meetings and visit underscore the ongoing dialogue between various political and religious factions in Lebanon and the broader region.
During a press conference in Beirut, Iraqji stated that while his side does not seek conflict, they remain prepared for it. “We do not seek war, but we are ready,” he said, according to Al-Sharq Online.
Iraqji also emphasized support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and national unity. “We support the sovereignty of Lebanon and its national unity,” he stated during his visit, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Iraqji reiterated that the current timing is not conducive to negotiations with Washington. “The time is not right for negotiations with Washington,” he said, as reported by Al-Hadath.
Upon arriving at Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport, Iraqji announced that he was scheduled to hold several meetings, with his primary objective being to address a range of regional and global issues, according to Akhbar Al Yawm.
