The Israeli military (IDF) struck what it described as Hezbollah command centers and weapons storage facilities in Beirut overnight, according to reports from AFP. The escalating exchange between Israel and Hezbollah is raising concerns about a wider regional conflict.
Prior to the strikes on Monday, the IDF issued evacuation warnings for residents of southern Beirut. The military also claimed to have killed Hussein Makled, the head of Hezbollah’s intelligence headquarters, during the overnight operations in Lebanon.
Al-Manar, a television station affiliated with Hezbollah, reported that one of its offices in South Beirut was hit.
TV Station in Tehran Targeted
In a separate development, Iran’s state TV, IRIB, reported two explosions near its headquarters in Tehran on Tuesday. Despite the blasts, the station stated it continued broadcasting as usual amid the ongoing Israeli-American campaign.
The television station is located in the Evin district, which is also home to Evin Prison.
The IDF stated it had targeted the area around IRIB, asserting that the site had recently been used by Iranian regime forces to promote military activities under the guise of civilian operations.
“Activities at the center were carried out and directed by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. Over the years, the Iranian broadcaster has incited the destruction of the State of Israel and the leverage of nuclear weapons. It has directly contributed to the suppression of the Iranian population,” the IDF said in a statement.
The IDF had previously warned it would strike the area and issued evacuation notices to residents near the broadcaster.
Four powerful explosions were heard and felt by AFP journalists after midnight in Tehran.
