A coordinated strike by Israel and the United States on Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of a significant number of Iranian leaders, including a top commander, according to an Israeli military official. The operation, months in the planning, marks a major escalation in regional tensions and raises concerns about a wider conflict.

The official stated that several factors aligned to create “near-perfect” conditions for targeting key figures within the Iranian leadership. These included intelligence indicating that a large number of high-ranking officials were gathered in one location, coupled with extensive planning and close coordination with the U.S. Military.

The air strikes, executed within a 60-second timeframe, targeted three locations and led to the deaths of approximately 40 high-ranking officials, including the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, as well as Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The development underscores growing regional instability and the potential for retaliatory actions.

According to the Israeli military official, the decision to carry out the strike in broad daylight was intended to maximize the element of surprise.

Israel and the United States reportedly agreed that targeting the leadership was the most effective way to initiate the operation, as officials believed that those targeted would quickly disperse and travel into hiding once hostilities began.
