Julia Fox Defends JFK Assassination-Inspired Halloween Costume Amid Criticism
Actor Julia Fox is defending her choice of Halloween costume – a replica of the blood-stained pink suit worn by Jackie Kennedy on the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated – after facing widespread criticism, including from a member of the Kennedy family.
The controversy began after images of Fox in the ensemble, worn to a New York City party on October 30th, circulated online, prompting accusations of disrespect and insensitivity. Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President Kennedy, wrote on X, “Julia Fox glorifying political violence is disgusting, desperate and dangerous.” Fox responded via Instagram, stating the outfit was “not a costume but a statement,” intended to highlight Jackie Kennedy’s “extraordinary bravery” and “poise” in the face of unimaginable trauma. She referenced the former First Lady’s decision to refuse changing her blood-stained clothes, saying, “I want them to see what they’ve done.”
Fox’s post further explained the symbolism, describing the pink suit as a haunting juxtaposition of “beauty and horror” and an example of “a woman weaponizing image and grace to expose brutality.” The original suit, an authorized copy of a Chanel design, is now preserved in a climate-controlled vault at the National Archives, and the Kennedy family previously sought to restrict public viewing until 2103. This incident arrives at a time of heightened concern over political violence in the United States, following several high-profile incidents including attempts on the life of a former president and attacks on political figures – a trend that has fueled national debate about security and rhetoric.
The debate underscores the enduring power of the imagery surrounding the JFK assassination and the sensitivity surrounding its representation. Authorities have not commented on the costume itself, but continue to monitor threats against public figures as the political climate remains volatile.
