Hungarian actor Péter Kálloy Molnár has died after a months-long battle with an illness, according to reports confirmed Monday, December 1. The acclaimed performer, known for roles in productions like “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” and consistent work on the Hungarian stage, faced a delayed diagnosis and a rapidly declining condition in recent weeks. Details surrounding his passing and the challenges of his treatment are emerging from accounts shared by close friends and colleagues.
Péter Kálloy Molnár, a beloved Hungarian actor, musician, and director, passed away on Monday, December 1, according to reports. His final months were marked by a challenging health battle, as detailed by Gábor Buda, leader of the Alma band and a longtime friend.
Buda Gábor revealed that the acclaimed artist initially sought treatment for stomach pain in February, but a serious diagnosis wasn’t immediately reached. He spent a month receiving incorrect care before the severity of his condition became clear.
Kálloy Molnár faced his illness privately, supported by his family and close friends. Despite difficult periods, he remained dedicated to his work, regularly performing in stage productions, providing voice-over work, and maintaining an active lifestyle with daily walks. There were moments when he seemed to be gaining strength, but his health unexpectedly deteriorated in mid-November, and he was unable to recover.
The news of his death was first announced on the Alma band’s social media page, initially met with disbelief by many who struggled to accept the tragic loss.
“Peti passed away suddenly, and people couldn’t believe it – many thought our account had been hacked. I’m sorry for causing a stir, but unfortunately, it doesn’t change the facts,”
Buda Gábor stated. He added that the artist’s family can count on their support during this difficult time.
Kálloy Molnár’s death has deeply affected the Hungarian acting community, with colleagues and friends offering tributes. “He was a very kind and good colleague, and we were performing together at 6SZÍN just a week ago. He had lost weight, but was optimistic about his recovery,” told Index Szabó Győző shortly after hearing the news. Meanwhile, Rudolf Péter shared with Index that they were integral parts of each other’s lives, and Kálloy Molnár Péter was the actor he collaborated with most frequently.
