Police in Kaunas, Lithuania, are investigating a homicide after a man died Friday morning despite efforts to save him. The incident prompted a specialized operation near the scene as authorities searched for a suspect.

Authorities responded to a report of an injured man early Friday morning in Kaunas, Lithuania. The victim was transported to Kaunas Clinics, where he later died despite medical intervention. A specialized operation was launched nearby as police investigated.

Officers from the “Aro” Public Security Unit arrived at the scene and entered a home close to where the man was found. According to prosecutors, they had received specific information regarding a potential location of a suspect, prompting the swift action.

“We received information that the suspect was in a specific house, so officers with special duties arrived and detained the person,” prosecutor Šukys said.

The suspect was apprehended at his residence and is now being informed of the charges related to the serious crime of murder. Authorities plan to seek a detention order from the court on Sunday.

Prosecutors indicated that a firearm, held illegally, was likely used in the crime. They have not yet commented on whether other weapons, such as a knife, were involved.

“The primary instrument used in the crime appears to be a firearm,” he stated.

Both Men Known to Law Enforcement

Investigators have confirmed that both the victim and the suspect were previously convicted criminals and known to law enforcement. However, prosecutors declined to confirm whether they were known for drug trafficking.

“I cannot confirm or deny that, but it is one of the possible versions,” Šukys said.

Authorities also have information indicating that the victim and the suspect were acquainted.

The prosecutor emphasized that several possible motives are being investigated, with more details to be released later.

“In my opinion, this is an isolated incident. Of course, every homicide is a very serious crime, but in this case, I think the investigation will clarify these matters further,” the prosecutor said.
