MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens’ injury woes deepened Sunday with the declaration that forward Kirby Dach suffered a fractured right foot during Saturday night’s game against the Boston Bruins. The injury to Dach, a key contributor to the team’s offense with seven points this season, comes at a challenging time for Montreal, already without several regular players. The team recalled forward Joshua Roy from the AHL’s Laval Rocket to bolster their forward ranks as they prepare to continue their road trip Monday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Sunday that forward Kirby Dach will be sidelined for four to six weeks with a fractured right foot.
Dach sustained the injury Saturday night against the Boston Bruins when he blocked a shot from Nikita Zadorov with just over five minutes remaining in the second period. He remained in the game despite the pain, but further evaluation confirmed the fracture.
To fill the roster spot, the Canadiens have recalled forward Joshua Roy from the Laval Rocket, their AHL affiliate. Roy has been steadily developing in the AHL and will get a chance to contribute at the NHL level.
Dach, a key offensive piece for Montreal, had registered five goals and seven points in 15 games this season. Roy has appeared in one game for the Canadiens this season, and has four goals and three assists in 10 games with the Rocket.
The Canadiens are already dealing with a significant injury list. On October 25, the team announced that Patrik Laine would be out for three to four months due to a hernia.
Further compounding the team’s woes, the Canadiens revealed Friday that Kaiden Guhle will miss eight to ten weeks with a partial tear of an adductor muscle, and Alex Newhook will be out for four months after suffering a fractured ankle Thursday against the Dallas Stars. Jared Davidson was brought up to take Newhook’s place in the lineup and made his NHL debut, playing 7 minutes and 14 seconds with four shots and a hit.
Montreal will continue their road trip Monday with a matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Defenseman Jayden Struble did not participate in Sunday morning’s practice at the CN Sports Complex, instead receiving treatment.
Jakub Dobes is slated to start in net for the Canadiens against the Blue Jackets on Monday night.
