SNK Announces Surprise Balance Update for The King of Fighters XV at EVO Japan 2026

SNK has revealed a major balance update for The King of Fighters XV, scheduled to arrive in July 2026. The announcement came as a surprise to attendees and viewers during the second day of EVO Japan 2026, where the company took the stage alongside the finals for both KOF XV and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

While the community had been anticipating news regarding Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the reveal of a recent trailer for KOF XV signaled a renewed commitment to the title’s competitive health. The upcoming July update is expected to introduce character adjustments that will likely disrupt the established competitive meta in the middle of the current season.

The move highlights the ongoing industry trend of extending the lifecycle of competitive titles through strategic post-launch support, ensuring that legacy games remain viable in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

First released on February 17, 2022, The King of Fighters XV continues to be a driving force in the fighting game scene. However, the title has gone a significant amount of time without substantial gameplay changes. The most recent balance overhaul was implemented on December 12, 2024, which also saw the addition of the selectable characters Mature and Vice.

Though SNK released a subsequent patch on January 16, 2025, that update was limited to minor bug fixes. The core gameplay mechanics have remained largely untouched for over a year and a half, making the July 2026 balance adjustments a pivotal moment for the game’s professional circuit.
