A driver in Kristiansand, Norway, is facing legal consequences after authorities recorded them traveling at nearly twice the posted speed limit Wednesday afternoon. The incident, which occurred on Torridalsveien, prompted police to suspend an ongoing traffic control operation according to local reports. The case highlights the ongoing issue of risky driving and underscores the potential for severe consequences on Norwegian roadways where speed limits are strictly enforced.

A driver in Kristiansand, Norway, faces charges after being clocked at 115 mph in a 50 mph zone Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Authorities have confiscated the driver’s license, and a formal complaint has been filed. The driver is a man in his 50s, according to police.

The speeding violation amounted to a 65 mph difference over the posted limit, calculations by Nettavisen show.

The incident prompted police to halt a traffic control operation that was already underway on Torridalsveien, according to a report from KRS.

“Driving at this speed is life-threatening. There is no doubt about it,” said Operations Leader Frode Vang. “We are near the city, on a road with a lot of traffic. There are no crosswalks, and cyclists may be in the roadway.”

The case underscores the dangers of excessive speed, particularly in areas with pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
