The Latvian national badminton championships concluded this weekend in Kekava, showcasing top talent from across the country in a three-day competition that began friday at Balozhi Secondary School [[number]]. Sigulda Badminton Club’s Anna Kupča emerged as the dominant force, claiming titles in both singles and doubles play at the event hosted at the Kekava Secondary School sports complex. The tournament, a key date on the Latvian badminton calendar, drew fierce competition and highlighted the growing strength of the sport within the nation.

Anna Kupča of Sigulda Badminton Club claimed the Latvian national badminton championship title this weekend, dominating both singles and doubles play at the tournament held in Kekava. The competition began Friday with qualifying rounds at Balozhi Secondary School, culminating in medal matches Saturday and Sunday at the Kekava Secondary School sports complex.

Kupča showcased her dominance in the women’s singles final, defeating Ieva Popi in straight sets 21:11, 21:12. Popi had previously upset multiple-time Latvian champion Jekaterina Romanova in the semi-final round, winning 21:19, 21:17.

The duo of Kupča and Romanova secured the women’s doubles championship, overcoming Popi and Madara Gauri with a score of 21:17, 21:10. Kupča continued her winning streak in mixed doubles, partnering with Artūrs Akmens to defeat Toms Salu and Kristīna Gurecka 21:14, 21:10 in the final.

Akmens also triumphed in the men’s doubles tournament alongside Reinis Krauklis (BK “Rīga”), battling to a three-set victory over Regnārs Bajārs and Toms Salu 21:11, 11:21, 21:16. However, Akmens had to settle for silver in the men’s singles final, where Niks Podosinoviks of the Balozhi Badminton Club prevailed 16:21, 21:16, 21:11.

In the women’s doubles bronze medal match, the Sigulda pairing of Madara Mackēviča and Anete Priedniece, along with Annija Rulle-Titava and Diāna Stognija of Riga, earned podium finishes. The mixed doubles bronze went to Sigulda’s Liāna Lenceviča and Artūrs Ķelpis (RSP/RBS).
