A remarkable story of love and loss has reached a joyous latest chapter. Actress Laura Orrico has welcomed her first child at age 49, a decade after the passing of her husband.
The CSI: Miami star welcomed her daughter, Aviana, on February 5th, conceived with the support of her late husband, Ryan Cosgrove, who died from complications of a brain tumor.
Prior to his death in 2015, Ryan and Laura made the decision to freeze his sperm in 2007. At 48 years ancient, Laura chose to pursue motherhood on her own, utilizing the preserved sperm. This story underscores the evolving landscape of family building and the enduring power of hope.

“It feels like a dream reach true and is so incredibly special,” Laura told People. “After years of wrestling with whether or not to do this on my own, still hoping to identify a partner, and after five miscarriages over the years, I finally have my gorgeous baby.”
“And to carry a piece of my late husband’s legacy (he passed away 10 years ago) by using his frozen sperm is such a beautiful blessing,” she added.
Laura shared that family and friends on both sides have embraced Aviana’s arrival with joy. While overjoyed, the delivery didn’t go entirely as planned. Laura initially underwent labor induction, but ultimately required a cesarean section.
Approaching 50, Laura feels well-prepared for motherhood, noting that her experience as a caregiver for family members with chronic illnesses has equipped her for this new role. She credits this background with giving her a sense of readiness and confidence as she embarks on this journey.
