Union Pacific Railroad Veteran Larry Hurst Dies at 68
Larry Wayne Hurst, a 68-year-old resident of Delavan, Kansas, passed away on September 18, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas, following a life dedicated to the railroad industry.
Born October 23, 1956, in Rison, Arkansas, Hurst began his career with the Coca-Cola Company before joining the railroad on May 16, 1979. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad out of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Dalhart, Texas, and Herington, Kansas, ultimately retiring on November 1, 2016, after nearly four decades of service. He was known for his culinary skills and generously shared his “canned” and frozen produce with friends. According to family, his ashes will be spread in the woods where he enjoyed hunting. More information about the importance of railroad safety can be found at the Federal Railroad Administration.
