The cancellation comes following the declaration of a regional state of catastrophe, highlighting the escalating impact of the fires on daily life and planned events.

A concert by Chilean musical group Los Jaivas has been suspended less than a day before it was scheduled to take place, officials confirmed Saturday. The event, planned for Parque Ecuador in Concepción, was intended to raise funds for those affected by the recent wildfires devastating the region.

The suspension comes as a result of a regional state of catastrophe declared in Biobío, according to a statement released by the municipality. “We inform you that, by order of the Presidential Delegation of the Biobío Region, and due to the State of Catastrophe in force in the Region, the concert by Los Jaivas and Urus, scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, January 24, within the framework of the International Folk Art Fair, has been suspended,” the statement read.

Officials expressed regret for the inconvenience but confirmed the International Folk Art Fair will continue as planned.

Earlier this week, Los Jaivas appealed to concertgoers via social media to bring donations for wildfire victims, specifically requesting bottled water, non-perishable food items, and hygiene products. The band’s gesture reflects a growing national effort to support communities impacted by the ongoing crisis.

“In these difficult days for many families, we send all our love, strength, and solidarity. We are deeply saddened by what is happening. All of Chile is with you today, and Los Jaivas are with you too, with open hearts,” the band stated in a post on their official accounts.

“To those attending the fair, we ask that you bring donations for the affected families: there will be a collection point to receive all the help. Let’s transform music into a bridge of support and hope,” they added.

As of Saturday afternoon, it remains unclear whether the concert will be rescheduled. The suspension underscores the severity of the wildfire situation and its impact on planned events in the region.
