Padel Courts Surge Across Europe, Now Home to 65% of Global Total
Europe has experienced a dramatic surge in padel popularity, now boasting more than 45,000 courts – representing 65% of the over 70,000 padel courts worldwide, according to a new study released today by the International Padel Federation’s (FIP) Research & Data Analysis Department.
The study reveals that across all 50 European countries, at least one padel club exists, with over 14,000 sports centers now dedicated to the sport. This represents more than 60% of the 23,000 clubs globally, and nearly half are affiliated with FIP-recognized federations. The growth is particularly striking when compared to 2020, when only 5,000 clubs operated across the continent – a +150% increase in just five years. This rapid expansion signals padel’s growing mainstream appeal as a sport accessible to all ages and skill levels.
Currently, an estimated 18 million Europeans actively play padel, encompassing a diverse range of players from professionals to amateurs. The nine nations competing in the upcoming FIP Euro Padel Cup – Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden – collectively account for 58% of all padel courts globally. The Final 8 of the FIP Euro Padel Cup is scheduled to take place in La Línea de la Concepción, Spain, from October 21 to 25, showcasing 16 men’s and 16 women’s teams.
