Nearly two years after her death following a battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, the family of the late Brazilian influencer Isabel Veloso is navigating new challenges. Isabel’s widower, Lucas Borbas, has publicly addressed conditions he’s placed on visits with their one-year-old son, Arthur, by isabel’s parents, citing a need to protect the child from ongoing family conflict. Borbas refuted claims he’s forbidden contact, explaining his decisions stem from a desire to uphold the peace Isabel prioritized during her life.
Lucas Borbas, the widower of influencer Isabel Veloso, revealed on Wednesday, January 4th, that he set conditions for his in-laws to see their one-year-old grandson, Arthur.
“When Isabel was hospitalized, a lot was happening behind the scenes. Things that Isabel couldn’t defend herself against, and as her husband, understanding my wife, I understood that the priority is always to protect my son,” Borbas explained.
He then denied accusations that he had forbidden Isabel’s parents, Joelson Veloso and Mirian Kiekow, from seeing Arthur, calling the claim “very serious.”
“What Isabel wouldn’t accept within the family in general was fighting and misunderstandings. So, as her husband, seeing everything that was happening, I decided to step in. As long as there’s fighting and misunderstandings, my son won’t be a part of it, because in our life as a couple, we never had that. Of course, no one is perfect, but we never had arguments at this level,” Lucas clarified.
“And it’s okay for people to think my opinion is inappropriate or that I’m a bad father for taking such good care of my son. My son isn’t imprisoned here. My son has a relationship with Mr. Joelson and Mirian, and if they want to come and get him, they can. I’m letting go of everything we lived through in the past,” he added.
Lucas further explained that Isabel’s greatest wish was for her family to be united, especially given that her parents are separated and often in conflict. “Isabel didn’t face everything by chance; she wanted her families to come together. I would never forbid my son from seeing his grandparents. I just need a clear conversation that, if everything that happened is truly in the past, it’s over. I need to protect my son.”
“It’s easy for people to judge me, saying my son doesn’t spend time with his grandparents without knowing the context. My son is here, they can come get him, but there are conditions. I’m a father, I protect my son, just as I protected Isabel’s image when she was in the ICU and couldn’t defend herself. I don’t judge anyone, I know everyone has their pain and everyone grieves in their own way. But my son is my priority now, he’s all I have. He’s what Isabel left me,” he said, visibly emotional.
“You know how bad it is to wake up every day and not have the person you loved by your side? Then you wake up and try to do everything to make your son happy, to give him a good school, a good education, everything the best, and then people come to judge you and say you’re a bad father, that you don’t do this or that. Try to find out the real reason for things, don’t judge people based on assumptions, because that’s what happened to Isabel,” he continued.
Finally, he addressed his in-laws: “I repeat: you can pick up my son anytime, you can call me on WhatsApp. Many times I don’t answer because I’m very busy, really, I’m taking care of my son’s future. It’s not about money, be sure of that. But when you come to pick him up, it will be under my conditions, the conditions my wife told me about – to protect my son’s integrity.”
