A series of shocking images of Diego Maradona lying lifeless in his bed, with a visibly distended abdomen, have shaken the ongoing trial of his medical team accused of negligence. The images were presented during proceedings on Thursday, April 24, 2026, according to reports from Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya.

Maradona, widely considered one of the greatest football players in history, passed away in November 2020 at the age of 60 although recovering at home following brain blood clot surgery. His death has been the subject of intense scrutiny and this trial aims to determine if negligence played a role in the tragic outcome.

The cause of death was determined to be heart failure and acute respiratory distress, occurring approximately two weeks after the surgery. A video showing Maradona’s condition after his death was shown in court, causing a stir during the trial of the seven medical professionals facing charges of negligence, Al Arabiya reported.

During Thursday’s session, emergency physician Juan Carlos Pinto testified regarding the state he found the football icon in upon arriving at Maradona’s home in an ambulance.

Further complicating the case, revelations from Maradona’s psychologist, Carlos Diaz, have emerged. Diaz testified that Maradona suffered from a number of chronic conditions, including addiction, bipolar disorder, and narcissistic tendencies, according to Al Arabiya. “There is a clear clinical picture here: addiction, bipolar disorder, a disorder in…” Diaz stated.

In a separate development, Maradona’s sisters and his lawyer have likewise been referred to trial, according to قناة ومنصة المشهد.
