Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, will be featured in Sony’s State of Play event on February 12, with a dedicated gameplay livestream to follow. The developer confirmed its participation in the showcase via its official Discord server, inviting fans to share their excitement for the title during the PlayStation broadcast.

The State of Play presentation represents a key opportunity for players to learn more about the ambitious project, which is slated for release on March 5 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. Extraction shooters are gaining traction as a compelling blend of first-person action and persistent world gameplay, attracting a dedicated audience.

Following the conclusion of the State of Play, a special gameplay livestream is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM PT. The presentation will include Joe Ziegler, the game’s director, and other special guests who have yet to be announced.

Bungie as well clarified that rumors of a surprise playtest weekend are inaccurate. The team stated it will announce dates for testing opportunities in advance to allow players to plan accordingly. This proactive communication aims to manage expectations and build anticipation for the game’s launch.

The success of Marathon is particularly important for Sony, given recent challenges with its live service projects. Several of the company’s titles have failed to meet expectations or were canceled before release, such as the multiplayer component of The Last of Us. The company’s $3 billion acquisition of Bungie underscores the importance of delivering a successful live-service experience.

Each season of Marathon will function as an extended adventure with roguelike elements, offering players renewed experiences throughout the game’s lifespan.

Marathon will be released on March 5 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. You can find more information about the game at Multiplayer.it.
