Legia Warsaw has turned to Marek Papszun, the highly-regarded manager of Raków Częstochowa, in a bid to rescue their faltering season. The 51-year-old will take the helm with Legia currently battling relegation in the Ekstraklasa and ousted from the polish Cup, marking a critical juncture for the historically prominent club[[1]]. Warsaw is bracing for a new era as Marek Papszun has been confirmed as the next head coach of Legia Warsaw. The 51-year-old will oversee Raków’s final Europa Conference League group stage match against Omonia Nicosia before taking on the challenging task of steering Legia out of their current slump. The Ekstraklasa side are currently in a relegation battle and have already been eliminated from the Polish Cup.
Legia has announced a press conference to formally introduce Papszun, scheduled for Friday, December 19th, at 2:00 PM local time.
Papszun Confirms: “This is the Last Battle Together”
Prior to Raków’s match against the Cypriot side, Papszun confirmed the widespread reports regarding his appointment. “Yes, what has been made public is true,” he stated briefly.
The coach added that he won’t be the only one departing Raków, with reports indicating that Artur Węska, Michał Garnys, Paweł Felik, and Łukasz Cebula will join him as part of his backroom staff at Legia.
“This is the last battle together – not just for me, but for parts of the staff, and perhaps some players, because that’s always the case at the end of a half-season or season, with changes happening. This last match is a kind of farewell,” Papszun said, hinting that he may also bring some players with him to Warsaw.
Marek Papszun inherits a Legia Warsaw side desperately in need of a turnaround. The club currently finds itself in the Ekstraklasa relegation zone and will not participate in European competition next spring.
