Martha Stewart Shares New Selfie with Billboard, Continues ‘Thirst Trap’ Trend

Martha Stewart, 84, posted a new selfie today on social media posing in front of a billboard advertising her skincare line, continuing a trend of playfully provocative images that has garnered her widespread attention.

The image, shared on Wednesday, shows Stewart in a grey sweatshirt making a kissy face while standing near her advertisement for Elm Biosciences, a collaboration with Dr. Bhanu Sali, on Sunset and Doheny in Los Angeles. She captioned the post, explaining the photo was taken while visiting the billboard with photographer Daisy Beautytoye, stating, “We came to LA to work and stopped by Sunset and Doheny to see my billboard… I was so happy to see it in person!!!! the wind was blowing.”

Stewart’s embrace of “thirst traps” began in 2020 with a viral pool selfie and has since become a signature part of her public persona, even leading her to offer advice to Drew Barrymore on how to pose. “Well, position yourself beautifully and up higher,” Stewart instructed Barrymore on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in September, adding, “And always go down your face and elongate your neck.” The businesswoman has acknowledged the attention the photos receive, once telling Ellen DeGeneres she received “so many proposals and so many propositions” after the initial image went viral. She recently revealed on “Today” that she continues to receive flirtatious messages, though she remains single, stating, “No, I’m not dating anybody special.” This playful online presence has broadened Stewart’s appeal to a younger demographic, demonstrating the power of social media for brand revitalization.

Despite initially claiming the original pool photo was accidental, Stewart later admitted she enjoys creating the images, saying, “I love doing those promiscuous, provocative things, because it’s just fun.” She is currently focused on promoting her skincare line, available through Elm Biosciences, and continuing to engage her followers with her signature style.

Stewart’s team has not commented on future plans for similar promotional images, but she indicated she intends to continue enjoying life and embracing unexpected opportunities.
