Metallica Producer Flemming Rasmussen Launches In-Depth Masterclass
Legendary producer Flemming Rasmussen, renowned for his work on Metallica’s landmark albums, has released a comprehensive online masterclass detailing the creation of their iconic sound.
The over 15-hour course, developed in partnership with ToneGodz, offers an unprecedented look into the recording, mixing, and production techniques used on Ride The Lightning (1984), Master of Puppets (1986), and …And Justice for All (1988). The masterclass features exclusive breakdowns of original Metallica sessions recorded at Sweet Silence Studios, real mixing walkthroughs, and never-before-heard stories from the band’s time in the studio. It also includes custom IR packs and drum samples created by Rasmussen himself.
“This is more than a masterclass — it’s a piece of metal history,” said Zack Elekes, co-founder of ToneGodz. “We wanted to preserve and share the true story of how these albums were made, straight from the man who shaped their sound.” Rasmussen’s innovative production style helped define the thrash metal genre and continues to influence musicians today. In a 2014 interview, Rasmussen identified “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)” from Master of Puppets and “Creeping Death” from Ride The Lightning as particularly significant achievements, noting the band’s ambition to “change music history.” You can learn more about the history of Metallica on their official website.
The masterclass is available now exclusively at ToneGodz.com. Rasmussen, a Danish award-winning producer and engineer, has left an indelible mark on heavy metal, and this course provides aspiring producers and fans alike with a rare opportunity to learn from a true master of the craft.
ToneGodz plans to release further masterclasses from influential producers in the coming months, continuing their mission to document and share the stories behind iconic recordings.
