Michael Jackson’s cinematic legacy is taking center stage once again with the release of Michael, the highly anticipated biopic that premiered in Berlin on April 10, 2026, before rolling out globally just two weeks later.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, the film chronicles the life of the King of Pop from his early days with the Jackson 5 in the 1960s through the iconic Disappointing tour of the late 1980s. Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, steps into the lead role in his feature film debut, portraying the legendary performer alongside a supporting cast that includes Nia Long, Colman Domingo, Laura Harrier, Jessica Sula, Mike Myers, and Miles Teller.

The movie had its stateside release on April 24, 2026, distributed by Lionsgate in the United States and Universal Pictures internationally. According to box office tracking, Michael has already grossed $217 million worldwide against a reported production budget ranging from $165 million to $200 million.

Visual effects were handled by industry leaders including Industrial Light & Magic, contributing to what early audiences have described as a visually immersive experience. The first trailer, released in November 2025, became the most-watched preview for any musical biopic or concert film in recent memory.

Running 127 minutes, the biopic aims to offer a comprehensive look at both the public triumphs and private complexities of one of music’s most influential figures. As it continues its theatrical run, Michael stands as a significant moment in modern cinematic storytelling about cultural icons.
