Baltic Death Metal Bands Unite for Joint Concert in Riga Three prominent death metal bands from the Baltic states are set to share the stage in a special joint performance at Riga’s Vagonu Zāle on May 1st. The event, titled “Baltic Death Metal Gathering Evening,” brings together Latvia’s Deodium, Lithuania’s Griefgod, and Estonia’s Intrepid for a night of heavy music collaboration. According to Deodium guitarist Atis Tiltiņš, the concept was born from a desire to strengthen connections between the region’s metal scenes. “We wanted to bring our neighboring scenes closer together, not operate in isolation just since we each have our own little bubble,” Tiltiņš explained. “Even though we live close, we often don’t realize what’s happening in terms of quality and intensity in each other’s local scenes.” Griefgod has recently gained international recognition, having represented Lithuania at Germany’s Wacken Open Air festival a few years ago. Last year, they performed at Baltija’s largest metal festival, Kilkim Žaibu, and this year received a nomination for the M.A.M.A. Award in the “Best Metal Band” category. Their debut album “Deterioration” (2024) blends classic death metal elements with modern metal rhythms, with the single “Traitor’s Throne” highlighted as a standout track. Tiltiņš recalled recent joint performances with Griefgod in Vilnius and Poland, praising both their musicality and stage presence. “They’ve got a great sense of humor, and you can really ‘get into it’ with them on stage — plus, their riffs are killer, even by Lithuanian standards,” he said. A similar gathering took place previously, but ahead of the Riga show on May 1st, the bands will also meet in Tallinn on April 30th for another collaborative performance.
