Dutch Businessman Hennie van der Most Declared Bankrupt Following Theme Park Failures
Hennie van der Most, a 76-year-old businessman, has been declared bankrupt, leading to the seizure of his primary residence and all personal belongings. The financial collapse follows a series of failed ventures in the leisure sector, most notably the bankruptcy of Attractiepark Rivoli in Rotterdam.
The seizure of assets marks a total financial reversal for Van der Most, who reportedly rose from a background of illiteracy to become a millionaire. This trajectory from sudden wealth to insolvency highlights the volatility of high-capital investments in the amusement industry, where operational failures can lead to rapid personal financial ruin.
Beyond the Rivoli debacle, the future of other projects remains bleak. The potential reopening of Speelstad Oranje is now considered highly unlikely, with the current status of the project described as “one considerable question mark.”
Van der Most has spoken candidly about his downfall and the loss of his fortune. “I have been cheated by everyone,” he stated, reflecting on the circumstances that led to his bankruptcy after the Rotterdam theme park failure. Regarding his current legal and financial standing, he admitted, “It looks extremely bad.”
The legal proceedings have left the businessman with virtually no remaining assets, as authorities have placed a lien on his home and other personal property to satisfy creditors.
