M&M’s are getting a sweet new twist with the release of their latest flavor: Cookie Dough. The new candy, already appearing in select Carrefour and Normal stores, features the brand’s signature chocolate shell, but replaces the traditional peanut filling with a creamy cookie dough center.
The arrival of the Cookie Dough M&M’s is the latest sign of the growing popularity of edible cookie dough, a trend that first gained traction in the United States and is now spreading across Europe. Fans may recall Ben & Jerry’s introducing the flavor to a wider audience with their vanilla ice cream swirled with chunks of edible cookie dough.
The trend has even spawned dedicated “cookie dough bars” in some cities, where customers can enjoy the treat straight from the source. Food manufacturers are taking note, with more and more sweet snacks incorporating the flavor.
New M&M’s Cookie Dough Spotted at Carrefour and Normal
Mars, the company behind M&M’s, is the latest to jump on the bandwagon. The new M&M’s Cookie Dough candies are already available on the Carrefour website.
Instagram account @lespepitesdeshypers first spotted the new product in a Carrefour supermarket and also confirmed its availability at Normal stores.
According to La veille des innovations alimentaires, the candy’s packaging stands out with its pink color, a departure from the brand’s usual yellow (for peanut), blue (for crispy), and brown (for all chocolate) schemes.
Even Sweeter Than Peanut
The specialized retail site also notes that the Cookie Dough M&M’s are even higher in sugar than the peanut variety. Per 100 grams, the new flavor contains 65 grams of sugar, compared to 53 grams in the traditional peanut M&M’s.
The popularity of cookie dough flavors reflects a broader trend of embracing indulgent treats, particularly those with roots in American snack culture. KitKat, owned by Nestlé, recently launched chocolate bars filled with cookie dough as well.
While tempting, these snacks are extremely sugary and should be enjoyed in moderation. The new M&M’s are a sweet addition to the candy aisle, but consumers should be mindful of their sugar content.
