“No, Mexico is not an option for me anymore. That ship has sailed,” he stated. “Monterrey is always on my radar and in my heart, but right now I have a contract with Toluca, and I’m very happy. Who knows what could happen in a few years? I might go back, or I might not. I think I was very happy there and gave everything I had to the club. If another opportunity doesn’t arise, then so be it.”
He added, “One is always hopeful that an offer might come along, because if I’m not at Toluca, there are one or two other teams in Mexico where I could see myself working. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. It’s a possibility, but not even remotely close at the moment.”
The coach’s comments are sure to fuel speculation about his long-term future, as he continues to lead Toluca. His previous tenure with Monterrey was highly successful, and a return would undoubtedly be a significant development in Liga MX.
