Liga MX fans are closely watching the future of Toluca manager Miguel Herrera, who recently addressed his ties to former club Monterrey. Herrera, who led Monterrey to a CONCACAF Champions League title in 2019, currently has a contract with Toluca but publicly acknowledged a continued affection for his previous team . The remarks, made during an interview with *Canal 6*, come as Toluca currently sits in fifth place in the Liga MX standings as of December 15, 2025.

Is Mohamed Considering a Return to Monterrey?

The head coach of the Diablos Rojos recently indicated he remains connected to his former club, Monterrey, despite currently being under contract with Toluca. The comments came during an interview with Canal 6, where he also dismissed speculation linking him to the Mexican National Team.

“No, Mexico is not an option for me anymore. That ship has sailed,” he stated. “Monterrey is always on my radar and in my heart, but right now I have a contract with Toluca, and I’m very happy. Who knows what could happen in a few years? I might go back, or I might not. I think I was very happy there and gave everything I had to the club. If another opportunity doesn’t arise, then so be it.”

He added, “One is always hopeful that an offer might come along, because if I’m not at Toluca, there are one or two other teams in Mexico where I could see myself working. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. It’s a possibility, but not even remotely close at the moment.”

The coach’s comments are sure to fuel speculation about his long-term future, as he continues to lead Toluca. His previous tenure with Monterrey was highly successful, and a return would undoubtedly be a significant development in Liga MX. The Diablos Rojos will be hoping these remarks don’t impact team morale as they push for a strong finish to the season.
