Capcom is addressing ongoing performance issues in the PC version of Monster hunter Wilds with a second major update slated for release January 28th at 3:00 AM Italian time. Following a December patch that reportedly improved performance by up to 20%, the new update will focus on further optimizations for CPU and GPU load, alongside improved VRAM management. The fixes aim to deliver a smoother experience for players who have reported inconsistent framerates as the game’s launch.

Capcom is rolling out a series of updates to improve performance in Monster Hunter Wilds, and the second of these is now scheduled for release. The PC-focused update will arrive on January 28th at 3:00 AM Italian time.

As previously announced, version 1.040.03.01 will introduce a range of optimizations specifically for the Steam version of the game. These include new graphics options and targeted adjustments to reduce the load on both the CPU and GPU, alongside significant improvements to VRAM management. The ongoing performance improvements are crucial as Monster Hunter Wilds aims to deliver a visually stunning and immersive hunting experience.

Update Details

Capcom will add a new “CPU” tab to the Options menu, according to information shared previously. This will allow players to fine-tune parameters such as the maximum number of endemic creatures displayed, the number of players shown in the lobby, the quality of small monsters, effects, and animations. These settings are designed to lighten the processor’s workload and adapt the game to a wider variety of hardware configurations.

New graphics options, such as foliage density, will also be implemented, along with additional levels of adjustment for existing settings like volumetric fog. The goal is to provide more granular control over CPU and GPU load, enabling players to find the optimal balance between visual quality and performance.

Capcom has also confirmed further interventions to VRAM usage, with optimizations to texture streaming and a better implementation of the high-resolution texture pack, which has caused issues for many users since launch. The development team will also work on shader compilation, reducing wait times at startup and mitigating potential micro-stuttering related to this process.

Since its release, Monster Hunter Wilds has faced criticism for inconsistent performance, with corrective updates arriving weeks later. The first update, released in December, improved PC performance by up to 20%, according to Digital Foundry. This will be followed by the dedicated update on January 28th, and subsequently, patch 1.041 will arrive on February 18th, planned for all platforms with further general improvements.
