However, not all models are performing equally well in the market, particularly in Italy where consumer preferences are distinct and focused on a select number of brands. A new study by carVertical, a leading automotive data firm, confirms this trend. The research identifies the most sought-after vehicles by Italian buyers in 2025 and highlights potential risks for consumers.
Most Searched Cars
The top 10 most searched-for cars in Italy reveals several interesting models. After two years of dominance by the Fiat 500 – which held the top spot in the previous two years – the lead has shifted. The Audi Q3 ranks tenth among the most frequently checked vehicles on the platform, accounting for 1.6% of searches. Following closely are the Fiat 500X (1.7%), Range Rover (1.8%), Alfa Romeo Giulietta (1.8%), Fiat Panda (1.8%) – Italy’s best-selling new car – and the Fiat 500 (2.1%). The Alfa Romeo Stelvio nearly reaches the podium with 2.1% of searches, while the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (2.2%) secures third place, preceded by the Audi A3 (3.1%). Taking the top position in the 2025 ranking is the Volkswagen Golf, representing 3.9% of all checks performed on the platform. Notably, five Italian brands appear in the top 10, but German automakers dominate the leading positions. carVertical recently published research outlining the key trends in the used car market for 2026, offering further insights into consumer behavior.
Risks to Consider
carVertical also points to several risks buyers should be aware of before purchasing a used vehicle. The Volkswagen Golf, for example, recorded the highest number of reported damages, with 17.5% of all models checked on carVertical showing prior damage. The Audi A3 (14.3%) and Fiat 500 (12.3%) follow in this ranking. The prevalence of mileage fraud remains a significant concern, with perpetrators attempting to reduce the displayed odometer reading. Among the most searched cars in Italy in 2025, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio is most frequently involved in this type of fraud, accounting for 3.8% of cases. The Range Rover (3.2%) and Audi A3 (3.1%) also appear prominently. The Fiat Panda recorded the highest average number of tampered kilometers, approximately 78,000. These factors should be carefully considered when selecting a used car.
