Naples Bank Heist: Tunnels and Inside Accomplice Revealed

Three suspects carried out a bank robbery in Naples’ Vomero district with inside assistance, according to Italian authorities. The heist took place at a Credit Agricole branch, where investigators say a facilitator within the bank provided critical information that enabled the criminals to bypass security measures.

Police confirmed that the robbers accessed safety deposit boxes by exploiting what the bank described as concentric layers of protection, a system designed to safeguard high-value assets. Despite these defenses, the suspects managed to breach the vault area, prompting questions about potential vulnerabilities in the institution’s internal protocols.

Investigators later linked the getaway vehicle used in the robbery to a theft that occurred two years earlier in the Casertano province, suggesting the criminal group may have planned the operation over an extended period. Surveillance footage from the bank showed the suspects entering the branch and moving through restricted zones, including areas near underground tunnels beneath the vault.

Authorities are exploring the possibility that an accomplice with expertise in Naples’ sewer system assisted the bandits, potentially using subterranean routes to approach or exit the premises undetected. While no arrests have been made, law enforcement continues to analyze video evidence and forensic leads in the ongoing investigation.

The incident has drawn attention to the evolving tactics of organized crime groups targeting financial institutions in southern Italy, particularly those combining insider knowledge with sophisticated logistical planning. Officials emphasized that the case remains active, with multiple agencies coordinating to trace the suspects and recover any stolen assets.
