bucharest – A Romanian lawmaker has launched a scathing public critique of the current government’s economic policies, alleging they are harming small businesses and undermining the country’s long-term economic health. The criticisms underscore persistent political divisions as the nation grapples with balancing fiscal responsibility and economic growth.

A member of Romania’s Parliament is publicly criticizing the current administration, alleging damaging economic policies. Claudiu Năsui, a USR party representative serving his third term, claims the country has “lost another opportunity for reform.”

Năsui shared a statement on Facebook accusing Ilie Bolojan’s government of aggressively targeting small businesses with financial pressures. The post ignited a debate about the administration’s economic approach.

“As long as Bolojan, Bolojan’s mother, or anyone aggressively reaches into the pockets of small businesses, bankrupting tens of thousands of companies, they are no different from other scoundrels who have passed through politics,” the Facebook post, shared by Năsui, reads.

Năsui echoed the sentiment in a follow-up comment, stating, “There’s a lot of truth in that.”

“The truth is that the Bolojan government didn’t care about businesses or people. They chose the easy path of reducing the deficit in the short term, even if it buries the economy in the long run. It’s like the operation was a success, but the patient died,” the USR representative wrote.

He further argued that the government prioritized tax increases over necessary spending cuts.

“‘The PSD didn’t let them’ would be a valid excuse if they hadn’t raised taxes. But they did, and the PSD did let them. Even while investing in political marketing and propagandists. Propaganda only works in the short term. The truth always comes out in the end,” Năsui added.

Năsui claims he’s been voicing these concerns for months, “long before it was popular.” He now believes the public is beginning to feel the negative effects of the government’s policies.

“It’s a shame Romania has lost another opportunity for reform,” Năsui concluded.

Năsui previously served as Minister of Economy in the government led by Florin Cîțu (December 2020-September 2021). This latest criticism highlights ongoing tensions within Romania’s political landscape as the country navigates economic challenges.
