Navarre Seeks European Region of Sport 2027 Designation as Evaluation Commission Visits
The regional government of Navarre is officially pursuing the title of European Region of Sport 2027, a bid that has brought an evaluation commission to the community to assess its qualifications. The visit marks a critical step in the region’s effort to secure the prestigious designation.

This initiative is centered on the belief that athletics serve as more than just competition. President María Chivite highlighted the “social value of sport” within Navarre, stating that it is a vital tool to “improve lives, create community and generate wellbeing.” This approach underscores the region’s strategy to frame sports as a pillar of public health and social cohesion.
To demonstrate this commitment to inclusivity, Navarre has showcased programs designed to remove physical and social barriers. In Tudela, a recent inclusive sports day brought together more than 260 students, introducing them to adaptive athletics within the school environment.
The events in Tudela featured sports such as goalball and boccia, specifically chosen to illustrate that sport has no barriers. By integrating these activities into the educational system, the region aims to prove that accessibility is a core component of its sporting culture.
The push for the 2027 title reflects a broader ambition to recognize Navarre’s investment in physical activity as a means of enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents.
