Belgian cycling is set to expand its calendar this spring with the addition of a new Class 2 race. The Société Flèche Ardennaise, already the organizers of the Flèche Ardennaise and Aubel-Thimister-Stavelot, will launch a third event, titled À Travers les Hautes Fagnes, on May 6th.

The new race is strategically positioned the day before the Flèche Ardennaise, creating a two-day block of competition. According to a statement from the organizers, “The implementation of a two-day competition block, with À Travers les Hautes Fagnes on Wednesday and the Flèche Ardennaise the following day, was essential to guarantee a quality sporting field and, ensure the sustainability of the Flèche Ardennaise, the oldest Class 2 classic in Belgium.” This format aims to attract more continental and development teams who prefer multi-day events due to logistical costs.

A SELECTIVE COURSE

À Travers les Hautes Fagnes will seize place in Waimes and is expected to favor aggressive riders. The course is planned to cover 150 kilometers with a maximum elevation gain of 2,000 meters, culminating in a challenging finale “ideal for punchers and offensive riders.” Jarno Widar was the victor at the Flèche Ardennaise in 2025, showcasing the caliber of competition expected in the region.

While the Société Flèche Ardennaise had to settle for a mid-week date due to a crowded Belgian cycling calendar, they hope to move the races to a weekend slot next year.
