‘Farmer Wants a Wife’ Star Geert Krops Paralyzed After Bicycle Accident

Former “Farmer Wants a Wife” contestant Geert Krops, 76, is completely paralyzed following a bicycle accident in Portugal, according to reports. The incident occurred on the first day of a cycling holiday with his partner, Lenie, on February 10th.

Lenie confirmed the news to RTL Boulevard, explaining that Geert fell from his bike after becoming unwell and subsequently fell two meters. A fellow cyclist performed CPR for approximately 45 minutes until a medical team arrived. He is currently being treated in a private hospital in Portugal and is conscious, though unable to speak, communicating through nods.

The news has deeply affected those associated with the show, including host Yvon Jaspers. “You are naturally shocked,” Jaspers said in RTL Boulevard on Thursday, March 5th. “Geert is such a strong, energetic, vital man. It’s as if a family member has something happen to them.” She added that the news was widely discussed among former participants on the show’s messaging app.

Doctors have recently inserted a pin into Krops’s spine to stabilize his neck. Lenie hopes he can be transferred to a hospital in the Netherlands soon, but this is currently uncertain due to tensions in the airspace, which are impacting flight availability. A specialized aircraft would be required for the transport.

Krops first gained public recognition through his appearance on the eighth season of “Farmer Wants a Wife” in 2015. He found love again two years ago while on a cycling trip along the Pieterpad, meeting Lenie, with whom he has been inseparable ever since.

The news of Krops’s accident comes as Jaspers prepares for the current season of “Farmer Wants a Wife,” a popular dating show that continues to capture audiences with its heartwarming stories. This incident underscores the unpredictable nature of life and the strong bonds formed through reality television.
