A new metro station is taking shape in Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal, replacing the former Rotunda Eng. Edgar Cardoso. The Rotunda station is a key component of the future Ruby Line, a project designed to improve transportation options across the region.
Construction began in early March 2024 and is slated for completion by December of this year. The station will feature a 500-space underground parking garage, along with commercial areas for shopping, dining, and recreation.
The Ruby Line will span 6.4 kilometers, connecting Casa da Música station – which already serves the Blue, Red, Green, Violet, Orange, and Pink lines – with the southern bank of the Douro River. The line will include a bridge and a total of eight stations: Campo Alegre and Casa da Música in Porto, and Santo OvÃdio, Soares dos Reis, Devesas, Rotunda, Candal, and Arrábida in Vila Nova de Gaia.
