Nicole Eggert on Breast Cancer Battle: ‘Every Day is a Gift’

“Baywatch” star Nicole Eggert views each day as a gift as she continues her multi-year battle with breast cancer.

Eggert spent Thanksgiving giving back with Los Angeles-based organizations Mission + Hope, and spoke with FOX NEWS Digital in a Los Angeles neighborhood about her current health status.

The actress expressed gratitude for the opportunity to volunteer during the holiday season and for having both of her daughters home for the occasion.

“I’ve been staying right here. Every day now is like a gift, and my other daughter is coming from New York. So we’re all going to be together. There’s nothing better than having both kids under one roof at the same time. It’s wonderful,” Eggert said.

Eggert has two daughters, Dilyn and Keegan. She told FOX NEWS Digital that having her daughter Dilyn with her while giving back was not only important to her, but necessary.

“Giving back is always important, it’s necessary. I love that she gets to be involved, and she’s enjoying it. She’s a good kid, you know, and we can get caught up in privilege. So I think looking around and taking care of your city is always important,” Eggert said.

Eggert was diagnosed with Stage 2 infiltrating ductal carcinoma in August 2023 and has since undergone surgery to combat the disease.

“I had a mastectomy and reconstruction on Thursday. How’s your weekend going?” Eggert shared in a post on Instagram. She added the hashtags #breastcancer #breastcancerawarness #feelyourselfup and tagged Dr. Kyle Song’s Instagram page from South Coast Plastic Studies in the caption of her post. Early detection is crucial in improving outcomes for breast cancer patients, highlighting the importance of regular screenings.

Eggert told FOX NEWS Digital that she is currently doing well.

“I’m doing great. All my cancer markers are negative, so that’s good. That’s monthly, so it’s like I have a clean bill of health. Then I enjoy the rest of the month. And then we do it again, you know, it never ends. That’s just what the journey is like. But I’m not complaining, everything looks clear so far, and the markers are clear,” Eggert said.

In a January 2024 interview, Eggert first revealed her diagnosis. People Magazine. The “Charles in Charge” star explained she initially experienced pain in her left breast and gained 25 pounds over three months.

These symptoms were initially attributed to menopause. During a self-exam in October, she discovered a lump. In early December 2023, Eggert’s doctors diagnosed her with Stage 2 infiltrating ductal carcinoma.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, most infiltrating ductal carcinomas, the most common type of breast cancer, breast cancer occur when “high levels of estrogen in breast cancer cells help the cancer grow and spread.”

Following her diagnosis, Eggert underwent a lumpectomy and lymph node removal. The actress completed chemotherapy and radiation in July 2024.

During a December 2024 interview with FOX NEWS Digital, Eggert explained that as a next step in her treatment plan, she will undergo a second mastectomy and breast reconstruction.

Following surgery, Eggert said she will either undergo a hysterectomy or begin hormone therapy, which would involve monthly estrogen-blocking injections for the next ten years, in addition to two oral medications she is currently scheduled to take for the next five years.

“It involves a lot,” she explained. “Mastectomy is weird. I thought they were just taking breast tissue. And then all your stitches and scars heal. That’s it. But it means so much more because it touches so many people. So it’s a strange feeling and habit.”

“Lymph node removal is more painful than the mastectomy,” she continued. “It’s a lot more complex. Impacts the body more, and I wasn’t really prepared for that because they didn’t say they were removing lymph nodes.”

“That’s something I have to figure out on my own,” Eggert added. “You know, someone in my bed saying, ‘What’s wrong with me?’ That’s all of it. And then finding a solution that works for my body. And just constantly trying everything until it does.”
