Nissan is rolling out a first-of-its-kind audio experiance to select models, aiming to redefine in-car sound quality through individualized customization. The new “Personalized Sound” system, now available in North America and powered by Google built-in,uses a quick hearing assessment to create a tailored audio profile for each driver. This software-driven innovation marks a important step beyond conventional equalizer settings, offering the potential to dramatically improve clarity and sound richness for all passengers [[1]] and [[2]].
Nissan has launched Personalized Sound, a new software system that tailors in-car audio to each driver’s unique hearing profile. The innovation, currently available in North America, marks a first for the automotive industry and is designed for vehicles equipped with Google built-in.
The technology represents a shift towards more personalized in-car experiences, leveraging software to optimize a traditionally hardware-focused feature. Personalized Sound utilizes a simple hearing test accessible through the vehicle’s central display.
Drivers can download the application from the Google Play Store and complete a roughly three-minute assessment. The test plays a series of tones ranging from 50 to 1200 Hz, prompting the user to indicate when they perceive each sound.
Based on the responses, the system generates a unique audio profile and automatically adjusts a 10-band equalizer to compensate for frequencies the driver is less sensitive to. This goes beyond standard bass and treble adjustments, reconstructing the entire sound spectrum to match the individual’s ear – similar to the calibration process found in high-end headphones.
Nissan reports that demonstrations have shown a significant difference between the default audio profile and the personalized setting, particularly in the clarity of instrumental details and the overall richness of the sound.

The Personalized Sound system is currently compatible with the following Nissan and Infiniti models featuring Google built-in:
- – Nissan Rogue (2024 and newer)
- – Nissan Murano (2025 and newer)
- – Nissan Armada (2025 and newer)
- – Nissan LEAF (2026)
- – Infiniti QX80 (2025 and newer)
- – Infiniti QX60 (2026)
- – Infiniti QX65 (coming soon)
The system works with the vehicle’s original audio equipment, as well as Bluetooth sources and integrated entertainment apps like Spotify and Audible. Nissan plans to expand compatibility to additional audio formats and sources throughout 2026.
Nissan also highlights that Personalized Sound can benefit drivers with some degree of hearing loss, potentially allowing them to perceive frequencies they might otherwise miss. The application was developed internally by Nissan’s product teams in under 18 months, demonstrating an agile, user-focused development approach.
