Brazilian cosmetics leader O Boticário has partnered with Almap BBDO to launch “Code Her,” a targeted initiative designed to combat the rise of AI-driven image manipulation and digital violence against women. This move highlights the critical intersection of artificial intelligence and digital safety, as companies increasingly develop tools to mitigate the risks posed by generative AI.
The project comes in response to a stark increase in digital crimes in Brazil. According to the National Cybercrime Reporting Center of the ONG SaferNet Brasil, reports of discrimination, violence, and misogyny against women have surged by 224.9% compared to the previous year. This trend has created a climate of fear for women who risk being targeted by fake, AI-generated images intended for public exposure.
To address this, the “Code Her” movement introduces a specialized bot integrated into the X platform. The technology allows users to proactively monitor their content by tagging @CodeHerBot when sharing photos on the social network. This deployment signals a shift toward user-controlled AI defenses in the fight against deepfake exploitation.
The system operates through a specific activation process: interested users must visit the project’s official website to review guidelines and accept the terms of service. Once activated, the AI chatbot monitors publications tagged with the bot’s handle. If the system detects an attempt by Grok—the AI developed by X—to manipulate or sexualize a photo, the image is blocked from display. The victim is then sent an alert notifying them of the attempt and providing directions to official reporting channels.
Beyond the automated bot, the initiative includes a digital handbook. This resource provides women with the essential information needed to report these crimes and navigate the legal implications of AI-generated abuse, ensuring that victims have a clear path toward justice and protection of their rights.
