A new musical play, described as both brilliant and whimsical, is exploring the evolving dynamics between men and women in a post-#MeToo world. The production, titled “Sur le cœur” (On the Heart), first gained acclaim at the 2024 Avignon Festival and will be performed in Ollioules, France, from March 18 to March 20, 2026.
Set in Paris in 2027, the play centers around a newly established unit at the Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital dedicated to researching emerging pathologies linked to increased awareness and discussion of women’s experiences. The unit is led by neuropsychiatrist Rose Spillerman, alongside her assistant Mario, who also leads the hospital choir. The story unfolds as Iris, accompanied by her sister Marguerite, enters the unit for observation after suddenly losing her ability to speak, prompting a deep dive into her case through both conventional and imaginative approaches.
The play utilizes a blend of theater and music to examine these complex issues, creating a space where fiction and fantasy intertwine with medical investigation. This innovative approach to storytelling could offer new perspectives on the psychological and emotional impacts of societal shifts.
