On April 24, 1988, Real Madrid secured the 1987/88 La Liga title with a resounding 6-0 victory over Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabéu. The win confirmed the championship mathematically, coming four matches before the season’s end.

Michel scored twice, while Hugo Sánchez, Gallego, Gordillo and Sanchís also found the net. Sánchez finished as La Liga’s top scorer with 29 goals, earning the Pichichi trophy and goalkeeper Francisco Buño claimed the Zamora award for fewest goals conceded.

Coached by Leo Beenhakker, Real Madrid dominated the league, finishing 11 points ahead of Real Sociedad. This triumph marked the club’s 23rd La Liga title and the third of five consecutive championships won by the Quinta del Buitre generation.
