Scottish fashion designer and musician Pam Hogg, celebrated for her punk rock aesthetic and extravagant designs favored by stars, has died, her family announced Wednesday. She passed away surrounded by friends and family in a care facility.
(Keystone-ATS) The family said in a statement accompanying a photograph of the fashion designer, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Pamela.”
“Pamela’s creative spirit and work touched so many, and she leaves behind a beautiful legacy that will continue to inspire, bring joy, and encourage us to live beyond the boundaries of convention,” they added.
Tributes have poured in from numerous celebrities on social media, including actresses Rose McGowan and Patricia Arquette, who called Hogg a “interstellar diamond,” the rock group Blondie, and designer Roksanda Ilincic, who praised her “light and incredible spirit.”
Cause and Age Not Disclosed
While the cause of death was not revealed, her loved ones thanked the staff at an East London care facility, where she spent her final days “surrounded by cherished friends and family.”
Her age was also not disclosed – though The Guardian estimates she was 66 years old. Hogg often remained enigmatic about her personal details, adding to her mystique.
Born in Paisley, Scotland, a town known for its textile tradition, Pam Hogg studied at the Glasgow School of Art and later at the Royal College of Art in London. She presented her first collection, “Psychadelic Jungle,” in 1981.
Often compared to Vivienne Westwood for her punk rock edge, Hogg was a prominent figure at London Fashion Week, known for her futuristic aesthetics, bold hairstyles, and daring designs. She dressed stars like Rihanna, Beyoncé, Kate Moss, and Lady Gaga, cementing her influence in the industry. The designer’s work often blended irony, feminism, and counter-culture.
One of Hogg’s signature pieces was the form-fitting catsuit, famously worn by Kylie Minogue in the 2007 music video for “2 Hearts” – a black, studded version being particularly iconic.
A passionate musician as well, Pam Hogg played in several bands, including Rubbish, which opened for The Pogues in the late 1970s, The Garden of Eden, and Doll, who supported Debbie Harry of Blondie in the 1990s.
