PayPal Launches Unified Loyalty Program and Debit Card in the UK
PayPal today announced the launch of a new unified loyalty program, PayPal-Plus, for customers in the United Kingdom, offering points on both online and in-store purchases, a move designed to increase customer engagement and spending within the PayPal ecosystem.
Consumers can sign up for the free PayPal-Plus program through the PayPal mobile app and redeem points when making purchases using PayPal online. The program features tiered benefits, unlocking additional perks as shoppers accumulate more points. To maximize rewards, PayPal is also introducing a new debit card directly linked to the PayPal wallet, accepted wherever Mastercard is valid. The debit card will be available in the coming weeks via the PayPal app and supports contactless payments with smartphones.
Customers using the PayPal debit card will earn 10 points for every £10 spent, with each point valued at 1p. Alternative methods, including using a PayPal balance, PayPal credit card, or the “pay in three” buy now, pay later service, will earn one point for every £10 spent. This expands the opportunities for customers to earn rewards on a wider range of transactions. For more information on buy now, pay later options, see the Financial Conduct Authority’s guidance.
“Our investment reflects a deep commitment to British consumers, businesses, and communities,” said Tamer El‐Emary, general manager of PayPal UK. The launch of PayPal-Plus comes as competition intensifies in the fintech space, with companies vying to offer more comprehensive financial services. The debit card will become available in the coming weeks, and PayPal officials stated they will continue to monitor the program and add features based on customer feedback.
PayPal has launched a new unified loyalty programme, offering British customers the chance to earn points on both online and high street transactions.
Consumers can sign up for PayPal-plus for free through the payment platform’s mobile app and redeem points when making purchases via PayPal online. As shoppers accumulate more points, they’ll unlock more “tiers”, PayPal explained, granting access to more perks. The payment giant is also introducing a debit card for users, which can be connected to the loyalty programme to maximise points earned.
This new debit card will connect directly to the PayPal wallet and may be used wherever Mastercard is accepted, PayPal confirmed.
The debit card will become available in the coming weeks through the PayPal app and can be added to make contactless payments with a smartphone.
The company’s buy now, pay later service, dubbed “pay in three”, will also qualify for PayPal-Plus points.
Customers using the PayPal debit card will accumulate 10 points for every £10 of spending. Each point is equivalent to 1p for spending.
Those earning points through alternative methods, including PayPal balance, PayPal credit card and PayPal pay in three, will earn one point for every £10 spent.
