Persija’s chances were further hampered by a 53rd-minute red card issued to Bruno Tubarao, leaving them to play a man down for the remainder of the match. The sending-off significantly impacted Persija’s attacking momentum and ability to respond to Persib’s early lead.
Persija Jakarta head coach Mauricio Souza acknowledged Persib’s strong defensive performance and ability to capitalize on counter-attacks. “Persib is a team that defends well. They utilized counter-attacks effectively. Congratulations to Persib Bandung for earning the points, and we look forward to the return match in Jakarta,” Souza said after the game.
Despite praising his opponent, Souza voiced his dissatisfaction with the officiating, specifically criticizing referee Ko Hyung-jin from South Korea. He claimed that several decisions made by the referee were detrimental to his team’s chances.

Souza argued that the frequent stoppages in play disrupted the flow of the game and that the added time was insufficient to compensate. He noted that only three minutes were added to the first half and four to the second.
“The game was constantly interrupted, and we didn’t see much time with the ball in play. Only four minutes of added time were given at the end of the second half. It prevented both teams from fully focusing on the match,” Souza explained. “Technically, there are many good players on the field.”
The defeat drops Persija Jakarta to third place in the standings with 35 points, while Persib Bandung climbs to the top with 38 points, solidifying their position as mid-season champions. The result sets up an intriguing second half of the season as both teams vie for the league title.
