A leak suggests details about Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 6 have surfaced.
With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles nearing the end of their lifecycle – launched in late 2020 – attention is turning to the next generation of gaming hardware. Sony’s PlayStation 6 is anticipated alongside the next Xbox, with a target release window of 2027.
As development of these new consoles progresses, the potential for leaks increases with more individuals involved in the projects. The demand for more powerful gaming experiences continues to drive innovation in console hardware.
On February 8, 2026, a well-known leaker in the graphics card community claimed to have information regarding the specifications of the upcoming PlayStation 6. The claim, while ambitious, comes at a time when anticipation for the next generation of consoles is building.
24 to 30 GB of RAM: A Significant Jump
According to KeplerL2, as reported by Videocardz, the PlayStation 6 could feature up to 30 GB of RAM. A separate, portable PlayStation 6 variant is rumored to include 24 GB of RAM.
Speculation has been growing for months that Sony may enter the hybrid console market, following the success of Nintendo’s Switch and, to a lesser extent, Valve’s Steam Deck.
A move from 24 GB to 30 GB of RAM would represent a substantial increase over previous console generations. The PS3 initially included 512 MB of RAM, which increased to 8 GB for the PS4 and 16 GB for the PS5.
The reported RAM capacity seems particularly high for a gaming console. For comparison, a game like Alan Wake 2 on PC, running at maximum settings in 4K, consumes between 10 and 13 GB of RAM and 14 GB of VRAM, totaling 27 GB of memory.
Potential for a Premium Price Tag?
The PC market has been affected in recent months by a RAM shortage, which has driven up prices significantly.
Currently, a 32 GB kit of DDR5 RAM costs approximately 500 euros – the same launch price as the PS5 in 2020. The next-generation PlayStation 6 is expected to utilize faster and more expensive GDDR7 memory.
While this rumor should be treated with caution, confirmation could have significant implications for the PlayStation 6’s final price. Could we see consoles priced around 1,000 euros?
