Sony is moving to phase out the “PlayStation Network” and “PSN” branding across its platform by September 2026, according to an internal email reviewed by Insider Gaming.

The change, described as purely visual, aims to better reflect the evolving scope of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s digital services. Core features such as online multiplayer, friends lists, and trophies will remain fully functional despite the rebranding.

Users will receive advance notice of the update, which coincides with the fall 2026 Technical Requirements Checklist revision. The transition will not alter any technical aspects of the platform’s offerings.

This shift comes amid ongoing discussions about digital rights management on PlayStation consoles, including concerns over license expiration timers and server-dependent access to purchased games.
