Plzeň, Czech Republic – A stolen bus careened through city streets Tuesday morning, causing multiple collisions and ultimately crashing outside of the city limits, authorities say. The driver, a 35-year-old man with a prior driving ban, reportedly tested positive for both alcohol and drugs at the scene. The incident prompted a full response from Plzeň’s emergency services and raises concerns about public safety, as the suspect remains at large while awaiting toxicology results.
PLZEŇ – A brazen theft, coupled with suspected intoxication and a series of collisions, culminated in a dramatic crash in the Czech city of Plzeň late last year. The incident, which unfolded over several city streets, has led to criminal charges against a 35-year-old man. The case highlights the potential for reckless behavior to quickly escalate into a public safety crisis, even in typically quiet urban areas.
Police in Plzeň are investigating an incident that occurred on Tuesday, shortly after 11:00 a.m., involving a stolen bus and multiple vehicle collisions. According to authorities, the 35-year-old suspect gained access to a parked, locked bus, located the keys, and drove the vehicle into city streets.
The bus proceeded along Karlovarská, Gerská, U Jam, and Jesenická streets, colliding with several parked cars along the way. Despite the damage, the driver continued onward, heading towards the municipality of Záluží.

Driving Ban, Alcohol, and Drugs
The incident concluded outside of Plzeň when the driver lost control of the bus, veering off the road and crashing into a concrete culvert. The bus became lodged in a grassy ditch, requiring the intervention of all emergency services. Firefighters extracted the driver from the wreckage, and paramedics transported him to a hospital with head and hand injuries.
Police confirmed the man was already under a driving ban and subsequently tested positive for both alcohol and drugs. “When we receive the results of the biological material analysis, it is highly probable that the criminal proceedings against the accused will be expanded to include another criminal offense,” stated police spokesperson Dagmar Mifková.
The suspect has been charged with unauthorized use of another’s property and remains at large pending the results of toxicology reports. The outcome of those tests will determine any further charges.
