The incident, occurring sunday on a key route for aid and travel to Ukraine, prompted a swift response from Warsaw and signals a deepening rift amid the ongoing conflict.
Polish authorities are investigating an act of sabotage on a railway line and have identified six individuals allegedly involved, with evidence pointing to Russian orchestration. The incident, which occurred Sunday evening on a key rail line between Warsaw and Lublin, raised concerns about potential disruptions to aid deliveries and travel to Ukraine.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced Tuesday that Russia recruited two Ukrainian nationals to carry out the sabotage. According to officials, the pair traveled to Poland from Belarus and subsequently fled back there after the incident. One of the individuals is reportedly from the Donbas region of Ukraine, while the other was previously convicted of sabotage within Ukraine in May of this year.
Further investigation, as reported by Onet, suggests that the two individuals did not act alone. Polish authorities believe four additional Ukrainian citizens residing in Poland were also involved in the sabotage and are currently searching for them. Police have reportedly identified all six suspects.
