Poland’s largest passenger rail operator, POLREGIO, has appointed Andrzej Pawłowski as its new CEO, effective March 2, 2026. The move comes as the company continues to navigate challenges in modernizing its fleet and meeting growing passenger demand. Pawłowski brings over four decades of experience in the Polish rail industry to the role.
The POLREGIO Supervisory Board selected Pawłowski following a competitive process, the company announced. He previously held leadership positions at PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) and CTL Logistics, and most recently served as CEO of Ciech Cargo, now known as Qemetica Cargo. This appointment signals a focus on operational expertise as POLREGIO seeks to expand its services.
Aleksandra Grzywaczewska, who served as interim CEO and board member for financial affairs, has resigned from her position. Katarzyna Gawlik-Tarnowska will lead the company in the interim period, until March 2, 2026, following a delegation from the Supervisory Board. Wojciech Dinges will continue in his role as Vice President of the Management Board.
The search for a permanent CEO began in January of this year, following the dismissal of Krzysztof Pietrzykowski in the fall of 2025. Grzywaczewska had been serving as interim CEO since that time, alongside Dinges.
POLREGIO transported over 102 million passengers in 2025, solidifying its position as Poland’s leading passenger rail provider. A key priority for the company remains the acquisition of new rolling stock, whether used or factory-new, to accommodate increasing ridership. The company recently indicated a need for approximately 100 new Electric Multiple Units (EMUs).
POLREGIO has already acquired used diesel multiple units and railcars previously operated in Germany. The company recently launched its largest tender in years, seeking to procure between six and 22 new EMUs, demonstrating a commitment to fleet modernization and improved service quality.
