Portugal Weather: Temperatures Drop – Forecast & Alerts

A notable cold snap is bringing freezing temperatures and weather alerts to several districts across Portugal this week. While the southern regions will experience milder conditions, much of the country-notably the north and interior-faces a sharp drop in temperatures that could disrupt travel and strain infrastructure [[1]]. Authorities are advising residents to prepare for overnight lows well below freezing,with some areas already under yellow warnings as of Monday [[2]], [[3]].

Temperatures across Portugal will vary widely this week, with the coldest conditions expected in the northern and interior regions. The chill is prompting weather alerts for several districts as temperatures dip below freezing overnight.

Sunday’s high temperatures ranged from 7 degrees Celsius (45 degrees Fahrenheit) in Guarda to 18 degrees Celsius (64 degrees Fahrenheit) in Faro. Overnight lows fell to 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit) in Bragança and 12 degrees Celsius (54 degrees Fahrenheit) in Faro.

The downward trend will continue throughout the week. Starting Monday, Bragança will be under a yellow weather warning, with a forecast high of 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) and a low of -4 degrees Celsius (25 degrees Fahrenheit). Castelo Branco is also under alert, expecting a high of 7 degrees Celsius (45 degrees Fahrenheit) and a low of 0 degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).

Guarda is forecast to see a high of 1 degree Celsius (34 degrees Fahrenheit) and a low of -4 degrees Celsius (25 degrees Fahrenheit), while Portalegre will experience a high of 8 degrees Celsius (46 degrees Fahrenheit) and a low of 1 degree Celsius (34 degrees Fahrenheit). These frigid temperatures could impact travel and infrastructure in the affected areas.

Milder conditions will prevail in the south. Faro and Sagres are expected to see highs of 14 degrees Celsius (57 degrees Fahrenheit) with lows of 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit) and 8 degrees Celsius (46 degrees Fahrenheit) respectively. Porto and Lisbon will reach a high of 10 degrees Celsius (50 degrees Fahrenheit), with overnight lows of 2 degrees Celsius (36 degrees Fahrenheit) and 5 degrees Celsius (41 degrees Fahrenheit).

Despite the cold snap, Portuguese authorities currently report no significant rainfall is expected across the country.
