Kochi – The assets of former Member of the Legislative Assembly and state convenor of the Trinamool Congress, P.V. Anvar, have increased by $6.7 million, but he has been unable to provide a satisfactory explanation, according to the Enforcement Directorate. The agency conducted raids at six locations connected to Anvar on Wednesday.

The investigation stems from a complaint filed by businessman Murugesh Narendra alleging that Anvar obtained loans from the Kerala Financial Corporation’s Malappuram branch with the help of officials, without adequate collateral and through fraudulent means. The ED is now investigating whether the transactions constitute money laundering. Malankulam Constructions took out a $83,000 loan using the same property as collateral. Later, PVR Developers also secured loans of $34,000 and $21,000 from KFC using the same asset, according to the ED.

These loans accumulated to a total debt of $250,000. The ED alleges that the funds were diverted for other purposes, including through benami transactions. Anvar admitted that Malankulam Constructions was owned by his son-in-law and driver, but that he was the true owner, according to the ED. The loan funds were reportedly used for the PVR Metro Village project. Construction activities at Metro Village are proceeding without the necessary permits from local authorities. The ED stated that numerous documents, including 15 accounts held in benami names, were seized during the raids and are being thoroughly examined.
