Over 1,000 Participate in NAMIWalks El Paso to Support Mental Health Awareness

More than a thousand El Paso residents gathered at Ascarate Park yesterday, October 18, 2025, to participate in NAMIWalks El Paso, demonstrating strong community support for mental health awareness and advocacy.

The annual event, organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) El Paso – the largest mental health advocacy resource in the borderland – centered around the national theme of “Mental Health for All.” Participants, including community members and local leaders, walked around the park after gathering near the Fiesta Area for check-in and an opening ceremony. Resource tents from local organizations were also available, providing information about mental health services in the area.

“It’s inspiring to see this many people walking side by side,” said Isidrio Torres, Executive Director of NAMI El Paso. “For anyone who may be struggling, this shows they’re not alone.” NAMIWalks events nationwide are crucial for reducing the stigma associated with mental illness, a barrier that often prevents individuals from seeking help. Funds raised through the walk will directly support NAMI El Paso’s free education and advocacy programs, offering vital resources to the community. Organizers noted consistent growth in attendance over the years and expressed plans to continue expanding outreach efforts to further promote mental health awareness in El Paso. Increased awareness and access to resources are particularly important in communities like El Paso, which often face unique challenges related to healthcare access and cultural stigmas. Event organizers say they will continue to analyze fundraising totals and plan for next year’s event, aiming to build on this year’s success and reach even more individuals in need of support.
